Nellie Gains Her Freedom and Finds the Perfect Home and Family

Nellie, a 15-week-old King Cavalier Spaniel/Toy Poodle mix was welcomed into Almost Home Foster & Rescue.  This little girl, along with 3 other dogs, are breeder-releases.  Nellie, too young to alter, was eligible for our Foster to Adopt Program.  The adopting family assumes all the luxury of adoption, but the final “paperwork” cannot be completed until she is spayed, an expense that is the responsibility of the rescue, when she is old enough for the procedure.  Veterinarian protocol is no less than 6 months, or until she stops growing.

Nellie was with us for one week.  We had just 7 days to update her vetting, cuddle and love on her, before we found the perfect family for her.  Dad is a Freelance Cartoonist, retired, Mom is semi-retired, and Addie, her fur-sister is a quiet, beautiful, Brittney Spaniel/English Setter mix, ever so ready to check out the new toys that accompanied Nellie to her new home.

It hadn’t been a full when we already received our first PUPDATE:

“Just a quick update to let you know all is going swimmingly.  We have decided to rename her Hayley.  She has been a perfect lady all day, pottying outside and enjoying the chew toys you left for her…and learning what things are not chew toys.  She is already working on the ‘down’ command.  Significant progress has been made already.”

We learned the next morning that she had slept through the night without incident.  “She’s amazing.”

Thank you, Steve and Kathy, for opening your hearts and home to Nellie.  Thank you, Addie, for graciously sharing your pet parents with another.  We are furever grateful.
