My apologies to all who follow the journeys, stories, and adoptions of Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN. I am so far behind in posting adoptions, which results in a delay in acknowledging all those individuals who transported, fostered, TC’d and have supported and rooted for this rescue’s success. I am truly sorry. Life lately, for me, has been unpredictable, chaotic, and my routine upended. I am getting it back together, putting my health and emotional needs first while still trying to manage a full time job and the rescue, be more active in fundraising as donations are way down, vetting and food has skyrocketed and I am unwilling to raise the adoption fee. We have phenomenal families applying at our current fee and I don’t want to loose a great home and family over a couple of dollars.
That being said, let’s get caught up with all of the adoption stories that I have slacked on….
Gracie, formerly know as Judy, came into rescue when law enforcement removed all the dogs from a horrific, backyard breeding operation in Oklahoma. “Say what?” I asked. “Law Enforcement in Oklahoma, with the concern and care of dogs?” Not a typical practice heard of in that Southern State, BUT, I applaud them, nonetheless. The dogs were surrendered to rescues and the local shelter. The Oklahoma Shelter’s have a standard policy of a 3-day hold. If not claimed or adopted, they are euthanized. Felicia Stilley, Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN momma cannot let that happen. So, on a daily basis, she scours the postings and visits the shelters pulling, vetting, and transporting dogs to safety. From this horrific situation, Gracie was pulled.
At just a little over 2 years of age, and given the conditions that she endured, she had a remarkable personality, socialized with other dogs and humans and was a favorite at both the vetting clinics, with foster momma Felicia and in our home.
Gracie was quickly adopted and set out for a 2.5 day journey East to where she came to call North Carolina home. The wait was excruciating for Tamara and Charles, but, oh so well worth it once they held her in their arms.
Tamara and Charles, thank you for opening your hearts and home to this little girl. Thank you for giving her a life, a home and a family that she deserves. We are furever grateful.
