Layla was welcomed into rescue, into Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN by way of a breeder-release. We were stunned, as she was only 2 1/2 years of age and an iconic example of a beautiful Yorkshire Terrier. Although we were elated that she would not spend her days caged, producing only for the almighty dollar bill, we had to ask “Why?”
“She won’t take.” Meaning, for as many times as she was bred, in an attempt to impregnate her, her little body scream, “Oh, heck no! This is not the life for me.” Therefore, deemed an expense instead of an asset, she was released and we were able to secure her for rescue.
Flashback to June of 2025. Mary called our rescue inquiring about a little Yorkie we had. She was currently vetted, had a nodule on her left side that we requested be removed. Mary and Steve had just recently laid their little Yorkie to rest and they were ready to open their hearts and home to another, but, could we get the mass tested…they couldn’t lose another. We had the vet send the sample out and the reports that came back were favorable. “Little to no chance of recurrence. We proceeded with the adoption. However, within a couple of weeks, Little Lilly was riddled with tumors and within a month lost her fight. Steve and Mary were devastated.
We called Steve and Mary when another Yorkie arrived from NC, however, they were not ready…they needed time. But when little Layla arrived, young, without a history a breeding, and needing the perfect family…I sent photos first…that’s all it took; they were ready.
Last weekend, Layla packed her bags, her pink pig, and a few more stuffies and headed home.
Steve and Mary, we cannot express how truly grateful we are that you opened your hearts and home, AGAIN, and gave yet another deserving soul a chance at life, as it should be. Thank you!
