You Don’t Miss it Till it’s Gone…Dingo Gets a Second Chance with the Family that Saved Him

“You don’t miss it till it’s gone” is a common idiom that expresses the idea that people often, but not always, take things for granted until they are no longer present.  It highlights the tendency to overlook the value of something, or someone, until its absence makes it apparent.  This phrase is […]

He was Knocked Down Twice, but Albert Persevered – Life is Grand!

Albert came to Almost Home Foster & Rescue by way of Oklahoma.  An elderly couple, unable to care for this 3-year-old, 10# Chihuahua disposed of him at the local shelter, “Someone will take him.”  A phrase used repeatedly.  This time, however, Albert lucked out and he was quickly

Wilma, Retirement Looks Good on You!

I attended College/Vocational Technical College in Alexandria MN back in the late 70’s.  I loved it up there.  The lakes, the trees, the openness; long stretches where commercial, residential, disruption seemed to be non-existent.  It reminded me of summer vacations, one week a year, spent at our Grandparent’s resort in Merrifield Minnesota, located just

Lilly’s Second Chance Nets Her the Title of “Daddy’s Girl”

When Dave and I began Almost Home Foster & Rescue, we had stated that  we would always try to help those furbabies that were “located in our own backyard.”  We had been tagging, pulling, and saving so many dogs from the Southern states, “trying to save them all,”  a feat that we quickly learned, is

Unsocialized, Fearful, Timid, Lizzy’s Rough Start in Life Takes a Huge Turn – Now Filled with Love, Cuddles, and Compassion

It appears that there is a Chiweenie outbreak of late.  Foster Momma Felicia Stilley informed us that there was a breeding and hoarding situation in the Wewoka Oklahoma area.  Rescuers were asked to help.  Felicia began pulling Chihuahua/Dachshund pups and mommas from the site.  It is reported that there were 40 puppers on site.

“Good Things Come to Those Who Wait…and Wait…and Wait” for Brandy (Bourbon), this Family was Worth the Wait.

Brandy (Bourbon), a six-year-old Lemon Beagle was released from breeding back in July of 2024.  Brandy had several applications, even more inquiries, and even had an approved adoption.  However, after just a few days, it was apparent that the environment wasn’t a good fit for Brandy.  She longed to be outside, a lot!  She longed

Stepping Up in Rescue Means Committing to, “Yes, I Can Help!”

“Do you know any Doberman Pinscher Rescues up there?  I have a full-blooded female.  Ears and tail docked, fully vetted, very sweet and was at one time, fully trained…one just needs to know the right words.  She gets along with other dogs, cats – so-so, and very small dogs.  A Vet Tech got her from
