Approximately 6 years ago Almost Home Foster & Rescue assisted a local breeder with finding homes for the dogs that were being released from breeding. Their intent was to close their breeding facility and focus on renovating their facility into a boarding kennel instead. In April, AHFK took the last of their dogs into rescue. Uriah, Fancy, Lilly, and Dolly were going to be treated to a well-deserved spa day, be brought up to date on all vaccinations, microchipped if necessary, and spayed, or neutered.
Judy had recently lost her Chewy of 17 years and Wimsey at the age of 13. Accustomed to the sound of paw prints, her world had grown pretty quiet. One knows that the heart still hurts for a long time after the passing of a beloved furbaby, but we also know that one pays tribute by giving another a chance at a home filled with love, life, compassion. Judy knew that she was ready…it was time.
Our meet and greet was slightly different from any other meet and greet. Judy was torn between three of the 4 newly arrived breeder releases. We narrowed it down to two when Judy needed a dog under 10 pounds – that left Fancy and Lilly. But, wait! Just like the commercial, “can you bring Dolly also?” Dolly, at 12.7# was over the weight limit, but, “sure, we can bring her also.”
The three girls romped and ran in her big, no, huge, beautifully manicured fenced yard. The three were in heaven. A decision needed to be made, torn between two, Judy’s sisters chimed in with suggestions and thoughts. In the end, she chose Dolly! Dolly just melted into her lap, into her arms, and Dolly approached for attention and loved to be held. Dolly was Judy’s girl.
Thank you, Judy, for giving this little girl the home and family that she deserves. Thank you for opening your heart and graciousness to her. Thank you for being her family.
