Wilma, Retirement Looks Good on You!

I attended College/Vocational Technical College in Alexandria MN back in the late 70’s.  I loved it up there.  The lakes, the trees, the openness; long stretches where commercial, residential, disruption seemed to be non-existent.  It reminded me of summer vacations, one week a year, spent at our Grandparent’s resort in Merrifield Minnesota, located just to the East of Brainerd Minnesota; God’s Country.  I love adoption locations that take me back – back to that much desired calmness, peacefulness, inner serenity.  I will drive all day long to experience that feeling over and over again.

Wilma had a meet and greet the later part of May.  The couple, however, who resided in a residential are of Mankato, a skip and a jump from us, were moving “Up North,” to God’s Country.  We were concerned with all the changes that Wilma would be presented with if we adopted her to this couple now, then she had to move in a week.  The havoc and chaos of moving 4 hours north, the return trips to finalize paperwork, the coming and going of friends and family, movers and shakers, was well – too overwhelming for anyone to feel that Wilma would be safe and secure during this period.  We agreed to keep her until the family was settled.

Wilma went home last Saturday.  The 4+ hour trip north did not disappoint.  Once north of the metro area of Minneapolis, the bodies of water started to show, the pines, straight and tall lined the interstate and I felt as if I were back home….

David and Lori’s new homestead is nestled on 30 acres, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.    And the land is absolutely gorgeous.  It is a haven for Wilma, this little Beagle/Dachshund mix.  She has a sunroom off the back of the house, in which she can monitor the wildlife from the comfort of her home.  This is the dream her new pet parents had for their retirement.  And, Wilma will be blessed with their dream as well.

Thank you, David and Lori, for allowing Wilma into your hearts.  Thank you for opening your home and sharing your retirement dreams with this little fur-kid.  We are furever grateful.
