Cody’s story is one of abuse, heartbreaking decisions, not once, but twice, relocation and do-overs. Cody’s life wasn’t always filled with uncertainty, but it sure started early in his life – at the ripe ole’ age of 6 months.
Cody’s origin began in Eastern KY. His momma worked and saved to buy Cody from a local breeder. She proudly brought him home, with all intentions of giving him the life he deserved – one filled with cuddles, love, and everything a Beagle puppy could want. His momma however was in a relationship that brought pain, abuse, days filled in fear and anxiety. By the time Cody was 6 months of age, the male of the household had discovered that the best way to get to the girl, was through the dog. The threats and attempts to beat Cody were more than momma could bear. She found a group of individuals who could get Cody out, get him safe; the further away from KY the better. Once Cody was safe, she could focus on herself and her safety.
Cody’s journey brought him to Minnesota, to Almost Home Foster & Rescue. We finalized his vetting and in two weeks time, Cody joined the Ingo and Beth’s family, where he lived for 5 years. Cody was healthy, happy, and he had a large, securely fenced yard right along the cities walking paths. He would eat breakfast with his poppa everyday and life was grand. Then poppa’s health began to slip, his memory just wasn’t there and he entered assisted living. Momma’s health wasn’t well and Cody’s world was crumbling…It was decided that he would return to rescue, to AHFK.
Cody found his niche at AHFK. Large, fenced yards and a whole pack of Beagle friends to play with by day, and a large leather couch to sleep on by night. But, it was more of a dormitory, a frat house than a home. Cody was missing that individual, one-on-one time with his own humans, although another fur-sibling would be grand! Dave often claims that I glom onto the fosters a little too long at times. He claims that I could find them good homes if I wasn’t always so picky…But, I have visions for each and every dog that enters our home. I envision the life and home and family that they deserve and I strive to find that…and I usually do.
Well, last evening Cody found that perfect home and family. Margie, approximately one year ago adopted Desi/Digger from AHFK. With a resident home in the city in the Winter and a cabin on the lake, Desi should have been living the life. However, as a breeder release, Desi, was used dogs around her at all times, and could shrug at the thought of humans infiltrating her space. She was becoming sluggish, bored, maybe depressed. She needed a sibling, a fur-sibling. Hence—enter Cody?
Margie inquired about Buddy. How was he with other dogs. His Personality? His demeanor? Would he fit in? We were hesitant about Buddy. I suggested Cody. He, I felt, would be perfect. Last night Desi met Cody and immediately she became on happy hound. Her attempt at some zoomies and Cody’s upright and wagging tale truly gave us all the information that we needed. Cody has found the PERFECT home and family. Momma Margie will be outfitting his with his life jacket, as the lake home is their primary home in the summer.
Margie, again, thank you for opening your heart and home to another AHFK furbaby. Thank you for giving him/them the lives and homes that they deserve. We are furever grateful.
