Rocky was Devastated with the Loss of His Poppa, However, his New Family is Making Sure His Transition is Seamless

With the loss of Rocky’s Poppa Jack, early in September, Rocky found himself back at Almost Home Foster & Rescue.  Rocky’s extended family members checked on him often and when they went through his Poppa’s apartment, they were quick to drop off Rocky’s personal items, his leather collar, his sunglasses, his leather jacket.  Those items that he adorned when he and is Poppa journeyed around town on their Segway.  And although, farm living with wide open spaces to run and stretch one’s legs was heaven, sharing time with his Poppa, their coffee friends, and camping friends, and making lifelong family memories put Rocky down in the dumps at times.

On September 6th, Jack passed away and Rocky returned to rescue.  We refrained from posting Rocky as available for adoption until he could attend his Poppa’s Celebration of Life, greet his friends and extended family and put some closure to his past.  The scents and familiar faces put Rocky in a funk for a day.  He put himself in isolation, decompressing and letting the past go.  Within a few days, Rocky was back…vibrant, full of life, full of P & V, and we knew that he was ready for the next chapter of his life to be written.  Question was, were we?

Rocky journeyed East last night to Wisconsin.  He met his furever momma and poppa, and even his new fur-sister Jules.  She is the pendulum swing of Rocky, a true Chihuahua personality with an attitude to give.  Rocky took it all in stride and tail was up and wagging, until it was time for me to go.  He cocked his head to the side, eyes wide, questioning…but it was time.  He was ready.

Momma Shelly read Rocky’s bio and smiled at the adventures that he and his Poppa Jack shared.

“I don’t have a Segway, but I have a VW convertible,” Shelly stated.  He can feel the wind whipping his ears once again.  And momma held true to her word.  Rocky, safety-belted in his new car seat, set out in the VW convertible, wind whipping his short Chihuahua ears and once again, segwaying through life.  Now that is what we call a Furever Momma.

Mark and Shelly, we are furever grateful that you have opened your hearts and home to Rocky, that you have made his transition to this new life and routine as seamless as possible, and you have provided Rocky with all the emotional support possible.  Poppa Jack is truly smiling down on you.
