Penny was welcomed into Almost Home Foster & Rescue through a breeder-release program. Penny, a 5 year-old Toy Poodle proved to be very timid, afraid of everything, noises, sights, sounds, people. Her trust in the world around her was nil. She found comfort in her kennel. We only crate at night. Our fosters are given a heated building with free outdoor access while Dave and I are at work. In an attempt to socialize Penny, I began letting her sleep with me. She looked forward to that every evening after eating, but she needed more than what we could give her…she needed her own family, her own home, and to be pampered and be considered one’s world.
Penny received an application upon her arrival. The application was approved and then a medical issue arouse and the adoption was put on hold. Because we felt that Barbara was where Penny could, and would thrive, we agreed to hold her until Barbara recovered.
This past weekend, Penny made the two hour trip North to her furever Momma and furever home. Penny, timid and unsure of these new surroundings, went into a self-preservation mode, but with Barbara’s soft voice and slow movements, it was shortly after I left that photos and pupdates arrived. Penny had curled up with Barbara on the couch, taking a much needed, decompressing nap.
Penny will take time, but with the love and compassion that she will receive from Barbara, we are sure that she has found the perfect home and momma to help her overcome her fears and timidness.
Thank you Barbara for allowing Penny this chance at a having a family that she deserves. Thank you for opening your heart and home to her. We are furever grateful.
