Mazie Travels West to Discover the Golden Family

On Saturday, Sept 14th, we began our second day of Rescue Weekend at 4:00am, typically referred to as Dark-thirty O’Clock.  We were heading West.  Mazie had found her furever home and family two states away and to avoid an overnight with a NPOG passenger, the rescue agreed to drive the first three legs, the adopting momma agreed to drive that last three legs, and Peggy Warkenthien picked up the middle three legs.  This ensured the least amount of handling, stops, and exchanges, and Mazie would be in her new momma’s arms by Noon.  Michelle Zdybicki, Transport Coordinator and Monitor pulled this off beautifully.

We had previously welcomed 14 Chihuahua/Dachshund mix puppies into Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN.  The family had every intention of spaying and neutering their adult dogs, however, life throws us a sidearm sliding curve, and all the best intentions are put on the back burner.  With this family, major medical issues, temporary loss of employment and the inability to be mobile, gave way to litters of puppies.  The family requested help from AHFK.

Every dog owner has a tinge of bias in the breed of dog that they prefer.  For Jerry and Sherry, it is the ChiWeenie; a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix.  When Sherry happened upon the posting for the five remaining Chiweenies, she was quick to call and quick with her application.  Their personal and veterinary references were impeccable.  Their mindset is to adopt rescue babies only, and we, as a rescue, have the safety net that Dave’s son also resides in Jerry and Sherry’s town.  “Who Knew!”

Mazie made her way West and discovered a whole new meaning to the word “family.”  She discovered that she has a human momma and poppa, a fur-brother, and two human grandsons who love her with all their heart.

It didn’t take long for this family to fall in love with her.  Or for her with them.  Jerry and Sherry, thank you for loving this little girl, for giving her everything she deserves and needs and for joining our AHFK family.  We are furever grateful.
