Early in February, 6 Chihuahua/Terrier mix puppies made their way to Almost Home Foster & Rescue in Minnesota from Oklahoma. Foster Momma Regan, answered a “free to a good home, need gone asap” ad on Craigslist. She asked all the right questions, “Is she vaccinated? Is she spayed? Does she have any health issues?” “Yes, Yes, and No,” were the answers given. Regan scooped up her newly acquired furbaby and headed home.
As the weeks went by, her little Chi began to swell. A trip to the Veterinarian confirmed her questions, “Yep, her little Chi girl was not spayed, in fact, she was pregnant.” She gave birth to 6 babies…5 females and one male. At six months of age, they ranged in weight from a mere 5#, to 13.9#. They were transported to Minnesota where they were all spayed/neutered, vaccinated and readied for adoption.
Five of the babies were adopted in a remarkable amount of time with Bella being the first just 18 days after her arrival. Sweet, sweet Bella found her home within minutes of the rescue. Susie, however, the Sass and Vinegar of the group, the little spitfire of the six, whom I am quite positive suffers from Middle-child syndrome, found herself left behind, always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Heck though, she had a yard full of male dogs, all altered, who she tussled with by day, and was living the life of a tom-boy…she was just a Girl having fun.
Then, last evening, on my way home from a meet and greet with another dog, I received an email. “I see Susie still hasn’t been adopted. I would love to have her. Is she still available?” A few more chats to the thread, and SUSIE GETS HER HOME AND FAMILY!
Ben and Katie are repeat AHFK adopters. We always love when our adopters come back to AHFK for another furbaby.
Ben and Katie, thank you once again for opening your heart and home to this little girl. Thank you for giving her the family and life that she deserves. She is a cherished handful!
