Kona Lost the Only Family He Knew, But Life Had So Much More in Store for Him…So Much More!

“Hi, are you still looking for a German Shorthaired Pointer?  I just got a text from someone looking  to surrender one,” Melissa Bassett-Carroll, founder and operator of The Rescue Connection, located in Lansing MN.  “I actually have no information.  He just sent me a text out of the blue.  I am on my way to New Mexico for a transport so thought I would ask you first.”
After a few more texts,  a couple of Messenger inquiries with GSP rescues in the surrounding areas, Almost Home Foster and Rescue had the information that we needed AND a GSP rescue commitment.  However, the quest for an available foster left the GSP rescue with no other option than to negate their intent to take Kona in.  During the flurry of emails and texts the WI Rescue had received an inquiry from a family wishing to adopt a GSP.  They had given a second chance to four GSPs in the past, worked with GSP rescues out of New York and Ohio and were now ready to add another to their family.  The WIGSP Rescue did not adopt long distance, therefore, they referred the family to Almost Home Foster & Rescue.
Craig and Debra had been searching for a female GSP, but after receiving the photos, vetting log and assessment record of Kona, they were all in for this 2 year old boy.  Their application was processed, including a lengthy email from their Veterinarian of Record.  The “t’s” were crossed and the “i’s” dotted.  Transport Coordinator Michelle Zdybicki was notified and in less than a week, we had a transport ready to take Kona Eastward –  to take Kona HOME!
Saturday afternoon, Kona met up with his new family in the Sandusky OH area.  His new parents left their home early Saturday morning, driving the final 6 legs of transport to get Kona home.  And as they say, “A picture is worth a thousand words,”  one can already see that Kona is quite smitten with his new mom and dad.
Thank you, Craig and Debra for making this such an incredible adoption for AHFK, for making sure that Kona’s needs were met, for minimizing the stress of transport, and for giving him the BEST dang home and family EVER!  We are eternally grateful.
Once again, three rescues came together to ensure that Kona received everything that he deserved and could have asked for.  Thank you for Melissa Bassett-Carroll for the rescue referral, to Dawn Levenick of WI GSP Rescue for referring Craig and Debra to Almost Home Foster & Rescue, and to Michelle Zdybicki for pulling this transport together in short notice, one that was flawlessly executed.
Gad, I love this village!
