Adoptions just don’t happen. Adoptions through Almost Home Foster & Rescue and planned out, applications are scrutinized, and the potential homes and families are visited prior to adoption. Libby had a number of applications. Good applications with great families wanting to adopt. We didn’t have a family that wasn’t deserving of her, however, Libby’s background, temperament, and personality restricted our options and helped us to form a unified, best possible family and home decision.
Libby, at six years of age, was released from breeding. She was well socialized with other dogs, she was around them all the time, but when it came to humans, she was scared and timid. We played the nightly, “Catch me if you can, game.” Even after a month, she was timid and reserved. Walking on a leash was a different world for her. We needed a family with a lot of patience, a lot of love, a lot of compassion, a secure, fenced yard, and one that was close by. We couldn’t risk the possible flight-risk that she was capable of by sending her on transport. After scrutinizing all of the applications, we had a family that met the criteria.
Donovan and Julia lived a mere hour and a quarter from us. Both were early retirees, had a fenced area for Libby, and they were home, typically all day, everyday, except when they RV’d in the Summer months and Libby would be joining them on the road.
During the meet and greet, the family’s last name kept swimming in my head. I knew this name….knew this area, something was familiar. We talked it through, only to discover that Donovan’s brother and his wife had adopted a Pomeranian from us about a year prior, and, lo-and-behold, they had adopted Libby’s momma – Banshee! Libby would once again be reunited with her momma during family gatherings and vacations. It was meant to be!
Thank you, Donovan and Julia, for opening your heart and home to Libby, for giving her back her family and for giving her a new furever home and family.
