At the end of September, Linda and Mark reached out to me;
“Dianne, we have a friend that might possibly lose her place to live. She, medically, is in very bad health. We feel that she will be in a nursing home soon. She has a Standard Goldendoodle. Could you check with rescues that may be able to help us. He is housebroken, neutered. His name is Opie. We have been checking in our area for a furever home, but not having any luck.”
“How old is the dog? Let me do some checking. Do you have photos?”
18 hours later…”Linda, I have a home for him. Let me know when his momma is ready to let him go.” That was on September 25th.
On December 4th, I received word that Opie’s mom was ready. She could no longer care for him and although he is her world, she could not do right by him. We had him checked over, treated his ears and last night I met Mark and Linda, picked Opie up and transported him to his new home and family.
Amanda, a co-worker and one I consider family through association, had contacted Zach, her husband when I first became aware of Opie’s soon to be availability. Without hesitation, they responded, “YES!” They also knew that his momma still needed him and were patient and most of all, understanding of the situation.
Last night, Opie was welcomed into his new furever home by his new furever family. The kids were excited and Opie was beside himself with all of the well deserved attention.
Zach and Amanda, you and your family are a special kind of family. I am furever grateful for you, for giving Opie a family and home that he so richly deserves. For giving and caring when another is in need. Heart hugs to all of you.
