Tagging, networking, sharing are all incredibly means for alerting the public, rescues and potential adopters of animals in need of rescue or saving. Many times, that is how Almost Home Foster and Rescue acquire our intakes. This is exactly how we acquired Nola, an American Standard Pit mix from North Carolina.
The Private Message was received from Sherri Jones, “Good morning, I was wondering if you ever work with any rescues or individuals in North Carolina that would help find a home for a very friendly, younger dog….???”
And so began that back-and-forth PM conversation. Then the photo of Nola came through. OMGawd, my dream dog, a Blue Nosed Pittie. I knew that I couldn’t take personally. I knew that our rescue was slammed in numbers and we needed to get those numbers down before the snow and cold temperatures arrived, BUT…. “Let me do some checking….” And my next step was to contact AHFK Board Member Kris in Colorado. She is the Bully expert for this rescue and has spent months looking for a Bully to bring into her pack. Again, PM conversations back and forth and the decision was made. Nola headed North to Minnesota to complete her vetting and then onto Colorado to a place she is to call home.
Nola made it “home” a little over a week ago. And as is with all who are uprooted and set down in another location with a different atmosphere, a different routine, and people that one has never met before, there are adjustments to be made, compromises to be made, patience is a must, and a solid schedule and routine to be adhered to. Time, love, compassion and the willingness to work at it are all requirements of rescue. And there is none better to carry this out than AHFK Foster and Board Member Kris.
Kris, you are truly an inspiration and an asset to this rescue. I am furever grateful to you and I admire your perseverance, your honesty, and your logical insight whenever they are needed. Thank you!
