From a Wire Crate and a Life of Breeding, to a Large Back Yard and Soft Pillow Cushions, Lillian is Home!

Lillian was surrendered to Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN by a local, SE Minnesota breeder.  The owner of the breeding facility had purchased Lillian from an Amish-based puppy mill.  She had been used extensively to produce beautiful, Red Cocker Spaniels.  However, her life, for 24/7 had been confined to a cage, only to be removed to be placed into the rape stand and then again when it was time to whelp.

This is the life that Lillian had accepted and resigned herself to.  Then she was purchased at an auction and when she arrived at her new home, she was placed in an 8 x 10 box stall.  The floor was covered in soft wood chips.  Lillian was housed with other dogs, a first; Jewels was one she bonded with immediately.  Now, at least, Lillian had the opportunity to socialize with other dogs.  But she was still fearful and timid with the humans around her.

Due to health concerns, Lillian’s new owner decided not to breed her, but instead to release her to rescue, to give her a chance at a life with a family and a home, a real home.  Lillian arrived at Almost Home Foster & Rescue.  We set up her vetting; updated her vaccines, spayed her – she was never to breed again, and had a much-needed dental cleaning performed.  Lillian, although still timid, was healthy and could be adopted.

Nancy had been looking and dreaming of finding a Cocker Spaniel to add to her family.  Blue, her Beagle/Hound mix is an AHFK Alumni.  Nancy contacted me as soon as she saw the first post of Lillian, and her application was submitted before there was a word spoken between us.

Last weekend, with the help of Michelle Zdybicki, Transport Coordinator and all of the volunteer, dedicated drivers, Lillian made her way to Florida, to Nancy and her furever home and family.

Thank you, Nancy, for once again opening your heart and home to another.  Thank you for giving Lillian a chance to have a family.  We are furever grateful.  Heart hugs always.
