“Dianne, Tracy has a small Bichon that she is getting from a puppy mill. She is about 5-years of age. Can you take her?” Dede King of Heart of the BorderCollie Rescue had reached out to Almost Home Foster & Rescue. “She is picking her up later today. Can you call Tracy?”
That’s the way we roll in this neck of the woods, networking, pulling, tagging, transporting for our fellow rescuers. We like to think we get things done this way. The call was made to Tracy and I picked up a little Bichon, thick with feces and urine. This little girl had chronic, watery diarrhea, and she was filthy. First stop, after picking her up, was The Pet Authority in Albert Lea MN where Amanda Wiegel, owner/operator of the establishment, worked her magic and gave Biscotti a much needed spa treatment, bath, and cut. Biscotti probably never felt better.
The chronic diarrhea persisted and we battled against it daily. Laundry every day. Baths, every day. Screaming when she defecated. We continually vetted her, bland diet, blood tests, adsorption tests…we were running out of options. We then switched out the chicken for Fromm’s turkey bowls and ordered in some venison. In two days time, she showed massive signs of improvement. So much so that this past weekend, Biscotti was able to “go home.”
Chris and Autumn are already members of the AHFK family. Almost three years ago, to this day, they adopted Odie, nka Oje. Sasha, their resident Bichon had recently passed away and Oje was having a tough time, they all were. Sasha, much like Biscotti, was on a special diet and Chris and Autumn, veterans at caring for “special needs” puppers, were up for the challenge.
Chris, Autumn, and Oje, thank you for sharing your hearts and home with yet another AHFK furbaby. Thank you for giving her the love, care and attention that she so richly deserves. We are furever grateful.
@Dede King and @Tracey Schoer, thank you for including me in this amazing village that we call rescue.
