Every so often there is a furbaby that crosses our threshold at Almost Home Foster & Rescue, and one knows that this will be a tough one to let go. Maake was that furbaby. He came to us by way of Oklahoma. After being tormented and abused by a youngster, Maake threw his head in the direction of the child as a warning. He didn’t bite. He didn’t nip. But, the family, after beating the holy terror out of him, marched him to the vet and demanded that he be euthanized. Maake was so incredibly sore that one could not touch his back, his back end, his ribs, or his collar area. This little guy was a mess.
The vet had the family surrender him over to him. He then called an Almost Home Foster & Rescue foster and asked if we could take him and get him out of Oklahoma. We did. It took Maake a couple of weeks to heal and allow us to touch him. But, for all the abuse that he had endured, Maake was quick to trust those with a soft hand. And one that offered “cookies” as a treat.
When the adoption application came through for Maake we were diligent in processing it, we scrutinized it, we looked for every reason not to approve it. We questioned the family. We spent more time with them at the meet and greet that they almost had to offer us lunch. They were perfect…THEY WERE PERFECT!
John and Julia, we are so incredibly grateful for giving Maake, nka Max the perfect home, the perfect family, the perfect environment, one without triggers and fear. Thank you for opening your hearts and home to this little boy. WE are furever grateful
