Lucy Lou was walked into a rural, Kentucky animal shelter by her parents. They removed her collar and walked away. Unable to care for her, they felt they had no choice. Lucy, known as Baby Girl, was a slight, petite, 14# Beagle mix. She was only a year old, and the only family that she had ever known had just abandoned her and walked away. She was scared, frightened, and extremely stressed in this place.
Hilda Orons put out the request for a rescue to step up, to commit to this little girl. There was already transport willing to move her and a foster in Indiana. Almost Home Foster & Rescue was tagged and we replied, enthusiastically, “YES!”
Baby Girl was moved to Indiana where John and Bethany Watts fell in love with her, cared for her, vetted and loved her until it was time to transport her to Minnesota. Lucy Lou was blessed with a windfall the day Todd and Nancy, an AHFK Alumni family, sent us a message looking to adopt her.
2.5 years ago, Todd and Nancy adopted Aspen from AHFK. Aspen was one of our toughest rescues. She had been so neglected and showed signs of extreme abuse, but Todd and Nancy have never given up on her and she has progressed immensely. Now, they wanted to add another to their family. We were initially reserved and cautious, however, that proved to be futile. The girls got along wonderfully and Lucy and Aspen were comfortable from the get-go. Lucy now shares a home with Aspen.
Thank you again, Todd and Nancy, for opening your hearts and home to yet another AHFK furbaby. Thank you for giving Lucy Lou the family, two-legged and four, that she so richly deserves.
Heart Hugs from all of us!
