Donna Williams, AHFR Foster Extraordinaire, of Merry Hill NC reached out to Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN. “This woman just contacted me. She wants to surrender her Yorkie; she wants to travel and doesn’t want to take her dog or … well you know. Do you have room? Can you take?”
We already had a family in mind. We had a plan. “Yes, but I need a vacation, going to Colorado to see my son and his family, I can take her the second weekend of September; can you foster until then?” She could and she did.
I picked up Chloe from transport in Floyd IA on the 13th of September. On my drive back home, I called Richard and Patti.
“Hello Dianne! I was just texting you.”
“Really, what were you texting me?”
Richard and Patti were looking for a small Maltese, but we just couldn’t find one for them. “I was just letting you know that if you should find a Yorkie, we would love to give her a home. We will be leaving for our Winter home in Florida mid-October. Would love to have prior to that…if you can find one.”
“Ha! Patti, the reason I am calling…I have a little Yorkie sitting in the seat beside me that I am bringing into rescue…you are the first person that I thought of and I was hoping that you and Richard could be her family.”
Richard’s favorite line when disbelief happens, “Get outta here!”
The following Friday morning, Chloe and I made our way to the metro area of Minnesota and Richard and Patti welcomed her into their hearts and home.
We have had many PUPDATES on Chloe; all wonderful. After taking her to the salon for her first grooming it was noted that Chloe, nka Sophie, is not a Yorkshire Terrier, but an Australian Terrier. When asked if they wanted to return her and wait for a Yorkie, I was informed, “She’s a keeper. Why in the world would I ever give her back?”
Side note for you senior Minnesota Twins fans, as I am one myself. Richard is a retired MN Twins pitcher. He also played for the Boston Red Sox and was a Rookie with the Cleveland Indians. When I informed him that my Grandfather’s cousin also played for the Cleveland Indians; Bob Feller, he responded with “Get outta here!”
Side note: for the individual that couldn’t be bothered with Chloe due to travelling…Sophie now winters in Florida and returns in the Spring to her summer home in Minnesota. Huh?! Who’da thunk?
Richard and Patti, thank you for opening your hearts and home to this little girl that was cast aside when someone just didn’t want to be bothered. She will be furever loved and cared for, And spoiled! As it should be.
Heart hugs
