Lucky originally came to Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN in April of 2024. He completed his vetting and was adopted in August of 2024. He returned to AHFR in December of 2025.
“We don’t want to keep lucky…peeing all over…won’t let us diaper him.”
I didn’t ask any more questions. I went and picked him up.
Lucky was on anti-seizure meds since he had left Oklahoma, some 14 months prior. The family was receptive to the twice-a-day routine of giving him his meds, but, when the pills ran out, they decided it was too expensive to keep him on the meds. For five months, Lucky seized. They finally took him to a veterinarian who suggested blood work up to determine which medication would work for Lucky…Nope, too expensive. She then prescribed the least expensive medication for him. And she detected a grade 3/6 heart murmur. Furosemide, a water pill was prescribed. Hence, the excessive peeing. Lucky was also in need of a dental. He had an infected tooth. Again, it was too expensive.
“I apologize for not taking care of his dental…my wife and my care comes first… I am not wealthy….sorry.”
Lucky was able to get into our Veterinarian of Record almost immediately. Three staff members listened to his heart, cautious of the upcoming dental…NO heart murmur detected, none, zip, zero, zilch. He was taken off the Furosemide.
We had blood work-up done, a dental, brought him up to date on vaccines and 4DX testing. His anti-seizure medications were adjusted, and Lucky was ready for another chance at life.
That chance came last weekend when he made the 4.5-hour trip to a small, rural home located about 30 miles SE of Fargo, where Anthony and Jessica, along with their daughter, opened their hearts and welcomed Lucky home. Lucky 🍀struck gold…Jessica is a Certified Veterinary Tech, CVT with the local Veterinary Clinic.
Lucky came back to rescue for a reason, he wasn’t home; it wasn’t the right home for Lucky. We are certain that Lucky is now home. He is loved, he is safe, he will be cared for.
Thank you, Anthony and Jessica, for giving Lucky the family and life that he truly deserves.
