Lily, Once a Stray in Virginia, Now Living the Grand Life in Sunny California

On September 10th of this year, we received a call from Karen.  After 6 years of being a human momma to her Senior Rosie of Arkansas, she had to let her go.  Karen knew that Rosie would let her know when it was time.  Her labored breathing, her struggle to get up and the soft eyes that told her that she was ready for the bridge, led Karen to give Rosie her dignity and allow her to “go home.”

“I knew what she was telling me.  My heart is shattered, she was my best girl, and I held her close as she crossed the bridge.  Thank you for letting me be her Mom for these past 6 years.  She will always have a piece of my heart.”

Karen, a three-peat Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN adopter still had Senior Elby of Missouri at home, both in a funk over the loss of Rosie.  Karen contacted AHFR towards the end of September.  “Before the weather turns and you get your numbers down for the season, do you have any little female Beagles in need?”

We didn’t at that time, however, we could always find a Beagle in need.  On November 4th Lily’s posting from Tazewell County Animal Shelter hit social media.  It was a flurry of planning, vetting, conversations, lining up transport, but it all came together and Lily arrived in MN, at rescue, on November 16th.

This past weekend Lily made another three-day journey West, to Sacramento CA, to Momma Karen and fur-brother Elby, to what is now called home.  A couple of days of decompressing and Lily has settled right in.  Elby is elated that he has another fur-sister to share his life with and Karen’s family is once again complete.

Thank you Karen for your unwavering support of Almost Home Foster & Rescue.  Thank you for opening your heart and home to Lily and all those before her.  Thank you for becoming the first AHFR Quad-adopter!  We are furever grateful for YOU!
