Dewey’s World is Filled with Firsts, Including His First-Time Pet Parents

All in all, we welcomed 14 Chihuahua/Dachshund mix puppies into Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN.  The family had every intention of spaying and neutering their adult dogs, however, life throws us a sidearm sliding curve, and all the best intentions are put on the back burner.  With this family, major medical issues, temporary loss of employment and the inability to be mobile, gave way to litters of puppies.  The family requested help from AHFK.

The final five Chiweenies, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Mazie, and Charlotte were secured, vaccinated, microchipped and made ready for adoption.  Because they were too young to spay/neuter, they all entered our Foster to Adopt program.  The new pet parents signed waivers that their furbaby would be spayed or neutered at/between 6-9 months of age, at which time, upon receipt of proof of spay/neuter, full ownership would transfer. All five pet parents were ecstatic about getting their furbabies home.

Dewey’s family, we were to learn upon receiving their application, would be first-time Pet Parents.  Lisa and Tak contacted Almost Home Foster & Rescue.  “How do we get this puppy?  What do we need to do?”  The application process was explained.  We needed personal references, a veterinarian reference, a signed neuter waiver, and a home visit.  Lisa and Tak nailed every box and requirement.  This young family was ready for their first furbaby and they absorbed all the information they could.  When we arrived at their home, we were overwhelmed and astonished that this couple went above and beyond to make their home safe and puppy friendly.  They had purchased a roll of “heavy-duty, Commercial-grade shelf lining paper, and rolled it out over the carpeted areas, placing the furniture back on top to secure it.  Ingenious!

Lisa and Tak, welcome to the AHFK family.  Thank you for opening your hearts and home to Dewey and for giving him the loving family that he deserves.  We are furever grateful.
