Maggie made her way to Almost Home Foster & Rescue back in March of this year. We had a family that immediately wanted to adopt her, however, over the course of the past 6 months, life threw some pretty hard curveballs at this family and after 6 months of struggling with the caring for an ailing spouse, his passing, and medical issues that plagued the other family member, Maggie’s adoption was postponed. A slump of shoulders, tears for Maggie, but it was time to start again: photos, postings, getting her bio out there in an attempt to find the perfect furever home and family.
Maggie has some issues; she is extremely timid and untrusting. Even though she was handled multiple times, daily, she still pancaked herself to the floor, ran from any human that came near her and always kept her eyes and body for “flight.” We knew that Maggie needed a quiet, soft-spoken, compassionate, patient pet-parent, and an environment to match. It didn’t take long…Jackie found us and applied to Maggie.
The meet and greet was two and a half hours in length. We were going to make sure that Maggie was relaxed and showed signs of trust and was comfortable with this new individual in her life. She was cradled on Jackie’s lap. Darting eyes and body trembling at first, she finally succumbed to the warmth and quiet tones of Jackie’s voice and her steady, caressing hands.Maggie finally stopped shaking and eventually turned her body into Jackie.
The new routine, environment and surroundings are proving to be a challenge with her, but time, love, compassion, and patience, all of which Jackie has, will prevail and Maggie will find that she has the best-human momma and a life that she once only dreamed of.
Thank you Jackie for opening your heart and home to Maggie. Thank you for giving her the life she deserves. We are furever grateful.
