“Good morning, Dianne. We lost our little Oakley back in May. We are now ready to add to our family. Lulu and Oakley became such good friends and, although we are grieving, Lulu is missing her companion. What do you have in the way of a male, non-shedder, middle-age, under 25#, kind of pupper right now?” Chris and Peg, Almost Home Foster & Rescue Alumni Adopters asked.
Well, Uriah was the first to come to mind. Uriah, aka Uri is a 6-year-old Miniature Poodle. He weighs in at 21#. Uriah was released from breeding when the owners decided to close their doors, revamp their operation, renovate, reconstruct, and reopen as a boarding facility. Uriah never acclimated to the kennels or crates. He became anxious and pawed incessantly to get out. Uriah loved to be outdoors and many a night would stay out with the Beagles, of course, the yard is securely fenced. Inside, however, he loved to curl up at the edge of the bed and he was content just warming one’s toes.
Uriah had previously been adopted out, however, we discovered that his love for outdoors and his socialization skills were mainly with other dogs, not so much with humans, were more than the family could contend with. And that is okay. It gave us the opportunity to reevaluate what Uriah needed in his furever home; a fenced yard, accessibility to that yard, and a fur-sibling. And, that is exactly what Uri, now known as Murray received.
Uriah has room on the bed, if Lulu lets him, a doggie door that leads to a beautifully manicured and landscaped backyard, Lulu, his fur-sibling, also a AHFK Alumni furkid, also released from the same breeding facility, a stay-at-home momma and a poppa who loves to go on walks. Uriah has the best of all worlds.
Chris and Peg, thank you for opening your hearts and home to yet another AHFK furbaby. Thank you for giving Uriah everything he deserves. We are furever grateful.
