“You’re just a stepping stone. You’re just a stepping stone. Your mission, to be the go-between from whence they came, to where they need to be. To remove them from the conditions that they were subjected to, and find the best family and home that there is.” I keep telling myself that, and typically, I post adoptions in the “we” tense, for it truly takes a village, a community of people to get these furbabies from the situations from whence they came right up to finding them their furever homes and families. BUT, every so often, there is a furbaby who comes along that shreds my heart when she leaves…Mayci, Nola, Charlee’, Skyler, just to name a few. All placed in amazing homes with amazing families…the best that there is, and tonight was no different. Opal took more than a piece of my heart…she took a chunk!
Opal came from a local home. Breeding had gone awry, medical conditions presented some health and financial problems, and the family just wasn’t equipped to take care of the vetting bills. Almost Home Foster & Rescue was asked to help. In all, 14 dogs, little chiweenies were taken into rescue. Opal is the last of the original 8. We have six additional pups, posting as soon as vaccinations and vetting is complete.
Melissa and Frank transplanted to the Midwest from the West Coast. They brought with them three Chihuahuas, all rescue adoptees. After the passing of two, Melissa and Frank adopted Katie, a little Blonde Chi. At a year and a half, she established her position in the family and in their hearts. Another loss was felt with the passing of the third, original Chihuahuas. Little Katie’s grief could be seen and felt, as was Frank and Melissa’s. They contacted AHFK and inquired about Opal, submitting their application. We were adamant, there was not a better home or family for Opal, and a meet and greet was scheduled.
Opal felt the same way upon arrival. I was always her safe spot, but upon meeting Melissa, and climbing into her lap, Opal told me that she was home. This is exactly the home and family that we were waiting for. Melissa is a stay at home momma, she has an amazing, caring poppa, and a fur-sister who will always be her best friend.
Melissa and Frank, thank you for opening your hearts and home to Opal. Thank you for always considering rescue. Thank you for giving Opal the home and family that she so richly deserves. WE are furever grateful.
