Released From Breeding for Being Too Big, Oliver’s Furever Family Finds Him, “Just Right!”

Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN received a private message from a couple of individuals affiliated with rescue, in a vast array of venues. “K” and “H” contacted AHFK and asked if we had room for any breeder releases. “Two, we can take 2. I have some leaving for adoption this weekend, that will free up some room, for now. What do you have?” A local breeder was desperately breeding for the “toy” size offspring and two of her dogs just weren’t giving her what she wanted…they were two big!” So Presley, at 12.9# and Oliver, at 9.3#, were surrendered to rescue, without a Howdy-do or a “goodbye.”
“H” made the drive, an hour one-way to secure the dogs. “H” was the only one the breeders trusted to secure the dogs and take them off the property. No one else was allowed. Like a bad mystery-thriller movie, we met “H” nine miles out of town at a disclosed area where the Oliver and Presley were welcomed into rescue.
Oliver received multiple applications. At just a year of age, and extremely social with both humans and other dogs, Oliver was a favorite amongst all. We scoured through the applications, but it was Jeff and Jean’s application that seemed to check everyone of our boxes.
Jeff and Jean have had Shih Tzus in the past. They were familiar with the breed and loved their personalities, their antics, their ability to love just as hard as they loved their furbabies. Jean, recently retired was home now and could devote her time to Oliver’s needs. Jeff, and avid walker would take care of the daily exercise. Oliver had the best of all worlds with Jeff and Jean.
Yesterday, Oliver made the two hour journey to meet his furever family. Tail-a-wagging upon first sight was a great start to his new beginning. Jeff and Jean couldn’t have asked for more. Oliver was exactly what completed this family.
Jeff and Jean, thank you for opening your hearts and home to Oliver. Thank you for allowing his to fill the void that was previously left. Thank you for being his family. We are furever grateful.
