Unsocialized, Fearful, Timid, Lizzy’s Rough Start in Life Takes a Huge Turn – Now Filled with Love, Cuddles, and Compassion

It appears that there is a Chiweenie outbreak of late.  Foster Momma Felicia Stilley informed us that there was a breeding and hoarding situation in the Wewoka Oklahoma area.  Rescuers were asked to help.  Felicia began pulling Chihuahua/Dachshund pups and mommas from the site.  It is reported that there were 40 puppers on site.   She found rescue for several of them, including Almost Home Foster & Rescue.  With 7 in her possession yet, we were able to take two at this time; Lizzy, a 9-month-old female and Cash, a 9-month-old male.  Both arrived in Minnesota on May 24th.   Both had received no human socialization until they reached Felicia’s farm.  They were terrified, fear-biting, and couldn’t find a place small enough or dark enough to hide from those human hands.  But, time, patience, love, compassion, soft voices and lots of cuddles, an insane amount of cuddles, began chipping at their fearfulness and timidness.

Within just a few short days, Lizzy stopped growling every time a human approached her.  Growling is just a simple way that Lizzy conveyed that she was uncomfortable.  She wasn’t aggressive.  She didn’t lunge or attack, she just spoke to us the only way she knew how.  The growling stopped after a couple of days and Lizzy found that being held, having someone talk softly to her and giving her tons of attention was, well, quite nice.  She kind of enjoyed this new feeling.

Lizzy had a meet and greet with Esther last Sunday.  Oh gosh, something new again.  Out of the ordinary and not her regular routine, plus Cash was nowhere to be found, Lizzy searched for those dark, small spaces to hide.  Esther though, with a soft touch, soft voice, and lots of praise was able to finally watch Lizzy relax.

Lizzy had her final vetting on Tuesday and went “Home” to her new family and momma yesterday.  The scents were familiar.  The people were familiar.  The hugs, cuddles and laps were all familiar.  Yep, Lizzy was finally HOME.

Thank you, Esther, for giving this little girl a chance at a home and family that she truly deserves.  Thank you for opening your heart and home to Lizzy, nka Zoe.
