“I need rescue for a Black Lab, ASAP,” Felicia Stilley, Almost Home Foster MN License #132328 Foster Momma texted.
“We don’t do big dogs,” I texted back. “My insurance company is breed ignorant and I can’t risk losing the farm coverage.”
“I know, but can you find rescue?” she responded.
I was just coming off break at work, rounding the corner to my cube farm when I ran into, literally ran into, the Vice President of the company that I work for. “Don’t text and walk, it’s dangerous,” he stated in his best authoritative voice and scowl, (oh wait, that is his face and voice.)
“Sorry, I am trying to find a rescue for a Black Lab that my foster momma has. He is in Oklahoma.
“How old?”
“According to the owners that gave him up, 3-4.”
“Does he get along with kids?”
Quick check with my foster momma, “Yep, and he is fully vetted.”
“I’ll take him.”
BOOM! FIREWORKS! CELEBRATION TIME! And a turn-and-burn trip to Missouri this past weekend where I met up with Felicia and Reagan, AHFK Foster Mommas, and Nytro has found his family. An active, energetic family of 6. Nytro’s favorite passion is to play fetch and with the tennis ball launcher provided by Foster Momma Reagan, the kids and Nytro were already in active play as I drove away after introductions.
Sometimes the right family is right in front of you. Sometimes rescue and adoption has been determined by a Higher Power. Sometimes it is families like Lee and Lisa and their four kids that make all the difference to a once displaced Okie Black Lab that found himself without a family.
To Lee and Lisa and your four beautiful children, we are furever grateful that you opened your hearts and home to this boy. I will never apologize again for running into another individual…good things come from it.
