Lucky Rolled the Dice of Life and Found the Perfect Family

Lucky…Lucky in Love, Lucky 7, “As Luck would have it…” Lucky and his fur-sister Ringo were surrendered to AHFK Foster Momma Felicia Stilley of Oklahoma.  Lucky’s momma was entering hospice care with severe dementia and could no longer care for her furbabies, and the family didn’t want them either.  It was suspected through a caretaker that the animals were abused, severely; by whom, we were not told.  Felicia picked up the two and took them home, vetted them and sent Almost Home Foster & Rescue a message.

“I have three Chihuahuas.  Can you take them?”

We said, “Yes.”

We met in Kansas City…Well, the three Chihuahuas were anything but, but then, Felicia already knew that as the grin on her face gave her away.  Lucky is a Terrier, close enough.  He was overweight and suffered from “episodes” not really a full-blown seizure, as he didn’t lose consciousness, but something similar.  He was prescribed phenobarbital; 22.5mgs/twice daily.

Upon arrival in Minnesota, Lucky saw our Veterinarian of Record.  He suggested reducing the meds.  Lucky was put on 30mg once daily…at nighttime.  The difference was amazing.  More energy, playful, and has a spring in his step.

Lucky had been with us for 6 months and it had been decided that Lucky would probably spend his days here.  He had adapted well to being one of our “kitchen” dogs…treated like our resident dog.  He slept in our beds, cuddling with us as we watched TV.  But then…an adoption application came through for him.  And as Ron stated in the application, “I take anti-seizure meds also.”

Lucky, whether luck or fate or destiny, Lucky found the PERFECT home and family.  Thank you, Ron and Mary, for giving this boy the perfect life.  You have made our hearts happy.
