Banjo, born into the deep south where animals are primarily considered a commodity; man’s possession to “make them money,” bred to hunt, bred to work, bred to “bring home the bacon.” And when they are afraid of gunshot, never grasp the idea of hunting, would rather be a lap dog and are considered, “good for Nuthin’,” they are typically abandoned, shot, left deep in the woods to fend for themselves, but sometimes, there is a sliver of a decency and the owner walks them into a veterinary facility and asks for the dog to be euthanized… “put to sleep.” Don’t want it; don’t need it; he’s good for nuthin’.”
This is how Banjo’s journey began. He was taken from his outside pen and waltzed into vet clinic, demanding that he be “put down.” He wasn’t sick. He wasn’t injured. He wasn’t aggressive nor did he have any behavioral issues. The owner just didn’t want him. The veterinarian staff couldn’t do it. They couldn’t plunge the needle or “pull the trigger.” What they could and did do was call Amy Deliah Smith, an incredible animal advocate in the DeRidder LA area. Her next contact was to Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN.
“Super sweet Dianne, any chance you have room? I have a foster, he can stay until you have room.”
“But of course. Let me get a transport schedule…” With the help of Michelle Zdybicki and a slew of dedicated, volunteer drivers, Banjo left the Deep South and took a two day journey headed for the Midwest.
Last weekend, Banjo found the perfect home and family. Steve is a Physician and Jon is a Stay-at-Home dad. With a huge backyard, and critters galore, Banjo, nka Benji, is loves his elements and is loved and cherished by his dads. He has a couple of feline-sisters that is is getting to know, and he is also “right around the corner from AHFK Alumni Zoozie, nka Willow, our one blue-eyed, one brown-eyed Beagle girl from Beaver WV.
