One Family’s Trash is Another Family’s Cherished Treasure

Gabe, a small Yorkshire Terrier found himself dumped, discarded, thrown away, abandoned in a little town of Wewoka Oklahoma.  His good fortune…he was dumped in Almost Home Foster & Rescue’s Foster Momma Felicia Stilley’s yard.  This little, 8 pound guy didn’t stand a chance otherwise in this big, “survival of the fittest” land.  Felicia secured him, cleaned him up, vetted him and called me.  “Can you take this one?  I can’t do little dogs here.”

“Yep.  Let me call Michelle to set up transport.”  And so, Gabe and a couple of traveling companions, Sandi and Adele, with the help of the dedicated, volunteer drivers under Michelle Zdybicki, made their way from Wewoka OK to rural Albert Lea MN and were welcomed in to rescue at Almost Home Foster & Rescue of MN.

Mike and Melissa lost their Yorkie about a year ago.  Their daughter never got over the loss and would ask incessantly, “When can I get another puppy?”  They started their search, and although they wanted a purebred Yorkie, they were searching humane societies and rescues for a mix.  They needed one that had a quiet disposition, one that did well with children, one that could go camping and lead an active, adventurous life with them.  Mike and Melissa took Gabe for a weekend visit.  They had sent the kids to Grandma’s.  They didn’t want to raise any hopes.  After two days they asked to keep him longer…they wanted to introduce him to the kids.  Gabe was a rock star.

Gabe came back to rescue for his final vetting, and a week later he made his way back home.  Back to the family that came to love him.   Back to the family that had been waiting all this time.  Back to his human sister whose perseverance paid off.

Thank you, Mike and Melissa, for giving this little cast-away, purebred Yorkie the family and the home that he deserves, the love and compassion that is due him.  We are furever grateful.
