Lilly’s Second Chance Nets Her the Title of “Daddy’s Girl”

When Dave and I began Almost Home Foster & Rescue, we had stated that  we would always try to help those furbabies that were “located in our own backyard.”  We had been tagging, pulling, and saving so many dogs from the Southern states, “trying to save them all,”  a feat that we quickly learned, is not possible, but when we were approached and asked to help those in Minnesota, or bordering states, we wouldn’t, “Just say ‘NO’!”

Lilly, along with Trixie, Dolly,  Walter, Rusty, Mollie Jr, and Punkin proved to be one of those times.  Located just a few miles from us, breeding had gone awry.  The original pups were not altered.  Then a number of major surgeries took place with one partner, unable to work, the family dynamics fell apart, money was tight, and the puppers were pregnant.  The breeding got out of control and we were sought out to help.
Lilly, along with Dollie and Trixie, were the first ChiWeenies to arrive at Almost Home Foster & Rescue.  Scared, timid, and in constant flight mode, it took soft voices, time, patience, and sometimes, just sitting and rocking to let her know that she was safe.  We needed to find families that had patience, soft voices, lots of love, and time to contribute to these babies.  We found three families who definitely checked these boxes.  Miss Lilly was the third and final of the original intakes to find her special family this past weekend.
Tonya is a “big dog person” who also “loves” cats.  They rescue and foster cats and stretch out a hand to any animal in need.  They understand and practice the Adoption rule of 3s, and know that change can be stressful on these furbabies.
Mike, soft voiced, quiet, is a “little dog” kind of guy.  Mike wanted a lap dog. One he could hold and love while he worked.  Well, Happy Birthday to you Mike…Meet Miss Lilly!
Mike spent a good portion of the day showing Miss Lilly her new home and yard.  He introduced her to the new batch of foster kittens…she wasn’t too sure about that.  She also acquired a human-brother and two large fur-brothers; a standard Collie and a Basset-Hound.  There will always be plenty to do, and mischief to get into with this tribe.
Thank you Tonya and Mike for opening your hearts and home to yet another in need.  Thank you for being the family that she so richly deserves.  We are furever grateful.
